  1. You will gain about 2hp at 7K RPM from this mod, from memory. There's a few guys in the States who have done this with success. I do have a page on this somewhere but it's only half completed, but if I recall correctly the electric pump was mounted near the end of the chrome water pipe in most of the builds that I used as references. 650 impellers are certainly harder to find than 500 ones!

    Clutch rattle

Here are some pics of the rubber dampers inside the original baskets; https://motofaction.org/motorcycles/honda-cx-gl/disassembling-cx500-cdi-clutch-basket-access-rubber-dampers/ All of the baskets I have had apart have had rock hard rubber in there that wasn't doing much damping at all 40 years on.

    Wintergreen oil

I will admit to having used it not only to soften up carb insulators but also to refresh leaky float bowl gaskets in a new-to-me old bike where they weren't readily available so I could test it without getting fuel everywhere... and it worked for that. Don't know how long it would have lasted, but it's not half bad stuff. I had a thought last night and added a note today about it being toxic and potentially lethal if ingested, particularly for children.

    Wintergreen oil

Here's the recipe I use, courtesy of Murray from Murray's Carbs: https://motofaction.org/mechanical-101/how-renew-soften-rubber-parts-with-oil-wintergreen-methyl-salicylate-gasket-o-rings-seals/

    GL/CX 500 coolant hoses

There are plenty of inexpensive off the shelf hoses that can have two sections cut out of them to fit the CX/GLs neatly, for both the single spine and triple backbone frame hose arrangements. See some suggestions here: https://motofaction.org/motorcycles/honda-cx-gl/a-radiator-hose-alternatives-sources-cx500-gl500-cx650-gl650/ I need to split that list up to clarify which ones work better for the triple backbone frame bikes but have not had time to verify.

    Fork Bushes, CX500EC

See here; https://motofaction.org/motorcycles/honda-cx-gl/cx650e-front-fork-differences-length-left-right-51410MG0003-51510MG0003/ The CX650E fork legs use a single bush on one side and two on the other. On the parts fiches one leg's bushing is listed with brackets around the numbers and the other has no brackets, so you can see which set go with which side. I haven't had a 500E set of forks apart for yonks but I presume it's the same case as the 650 without looking at the parts fiches.

    sound ZAB fuel tank

If you do manage to get a ZAB or Sports/Eurosport tank to work on the C frame I'd be interested to know how you made it work... people ask me about what other tanks can be made to fit on a 650/400 Custom frame and I currently have little info to go on there.

    13mm socket????

It's funny what you get used to... working on Honda motorcycles like the CX I by default eyeball a bolt to 8, 10, 12, 14, 17 or 19mm. Working on a BMW (or my Zeta-platformed GM) I find 10 and 13mm are the default rather than 10/12mm and there's often 18mm bolts and other ones you just don't see on a Honda...

    CX650 Engine Badge

As a side note, the CX650 ones are handed - one has a cutout for the dipstick and the other doesn't. I do have a set here I am selling but postage from Oz usually kills the deal..

    Cx diesel

+1 to that - pop the radiator off and see what the fan is doing. Hopefully it hasn't come off and eaten up the back of the rad.

    gearshift spring

I have a handful here that I don't need - postage from Oz, but it's probably not too bad for something so light.
