New Members Info Page

Greetings fellow rider,

Welcome to the CX-GL M.C.C. UK!

Now you've joined us, please take time out complete a few simple tasks that can only enhance your enjoyment of the club and the website;

Firstly, using your allocated password and username go and introduce yourself on the 'General Message Board', M.C.C. members like to know who they are talking to! You are assured a warm and hearty welcome.

While you're in that location, look to the top of the screen and click on the button that says 'Profile'. This brings up a menu into which you can add as much or as little information as you wish - this allows other members to see such information as your location, personal email console, personal website address etc. Very handy if you have a problem and other members are close by who can offer assistance! You can also add a signature and a personal avatar.

Finally, have a look at the 'M.C.C. constitution' pages - these are self explanatory.  You've already agreed to abide by it, so perhaps you may actually want to know what it says!

You are able to post unlimited messages on the notice boards - please use the relevant board for the relevant messages, I know this may seem obvious but some how messages do seem to appear on the wrong boards.  If you have a question, then just ask - guaranteed somebody, some where in the M.C.C. will have the answer for you, our best response time so far is 4 minutes!

Please be aware that the M.C.C. does not allow the advertising of items for sale (other than items from the M.C.C. shop) on this or any other of its sites - the 'M.C.C. Constitution' covers this in more detail.

You also have a personal album, uploading images is straight forward, putting a picture within the text of a message on the noticeboard is more complicated - see the FAQ page for more detailed instructions.

INFO ABOUT THE M.C.C.

When the M.C.C. was formed on the 2nd of February 2002, membership was free to all. As we existed with the MSN Group Area on the web, there didn't seem any point in asking members to contribute to the running of the club.  However, times change and by the beginning of 2006 MSN where asking us to cut down our site because of the space we where taking up on their server.

We had, early on created our own webpage, to act as a sign post in to the MSN.  After much deliberation and an M.C.C. wide vote, the decision was taken to move away from the MSN, develop our own site and charge a small annual subscription fee for the maintenance, development and associated charges incurred while running our own website (which you see here).

A page with detailed origins of the M.C.C. is displayed at: www.cx-gl.org.uk/history.php

For administration purposes the M.C.C. is broken into regions, with an Assistant Manager as a point of contact. The following is a list of the current M.C.C. management team:

All members who are resident in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland (Eire) are classified as Full M.C.C. Members; members living outside the UK or Eire are classified as Associate Members.  The simple difference is voting rights, all 'full' M.C.C. members are entitled to propose, oppose and introduce motions at the Annual General Meeting of the M.C.C., and associate members can't!

M.C.C. Funding and Shop.

The M.C.C. runs its own shop, which offers huge savings on items to M.C.C. members, when compared to high street or internet prices.  Please contact Skippy at the M.C.C. Shop for further info and payment details.  A small profit, of no more than 10% is made from shop sales - this is before VaT and Postage are added - which is then pumped into the M.C.C. account.  The M.C.C. uses this money to pay for server fees, domain registration and chat room charges.

CHATROOM (Wednesday evenings at 2100hrs (9 P.M.)).

All M.C.C. members are invited to join the rest of the gang in the club chat room, which can be found on the .org website.

Accessing the chat room is easy, but does require a little patience, if you are too hasty then you might find yourself logged on as 'enter user name here'.  Please use the same user name in the chat room that you listed on your membership application form.

As a general rule, we don't use abbreviations as it's not 'new-user' friendly; any that you do see are normally instantly recognisable (or more likely to be spelling mistakes).  The Chat room is monitored at all times by any one of the M.C.C. management team, but you are just as likely to find us all in there having a good natter.  If you've never used a chat room before, or you think your typing is slow (you should see ours) - don't worry, everybody is given space and curtsey is accorded at all times: we certainly don't bite!

M.C.C. EVENTS

Throughout the year, various events/rally's are organised by members of the M.C.C. , some of these are not necessarily by the management team - in past years, two M.C.C. members decided to give regional bashes a go and where very successful!

Provisional discussions for other rallys/meetings/rideouts are always notified on the 'Lets meet up' notice board.  Suggestions of events to attend are always welcome.

Once again, welcome to the M.C.C., we hope you enjoy the camaraderie and friendship that seems to permeate through the whole organisation, and we look forward to meeting you (in cyberspace, in the chat room) and at one of our rally's.

If you have any further questions, queries or thoughts then please contact any of the managers, all of us will be glad to help.  Any feedback that could improve this page or any aspect of the site would be most welcome.

Enjoy the club.
